A Dyslexics’ Career Path

It was senior level sales manager to administrative assistance to unpaid intern. Today is my last day of fun-employment and I can’t help but reflect on how far I’ve come in. Three months out of college I had my own office and someone was paid to answer the phone, “Hello joannE’s office.”  Seven years later I have eagerly taken the position of Unpaid Intern.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit but having nothing to for the past week has been absolutely delightful! Although the lack of  schedule has made me chronically late to just about everything. My time off seemed to focus around two things, laundry and yoga. No longer having the excuse ‘for educational reasons’ to justify my poor diet choices it was time to get back on the wagon. That meant getting rid of all those allergenic (and delicious) foods, which include, refined sugars, eggs, dairy, and of course the ugly G-word, gluten.

My culinary school weight gain (for educational purposes of course) is something I attribute to those foods and of course butter. Light Bulb!  Since butter melts between 95-104°F then what better way to render it off my thighs then by doing BikramYoga where the classes are 90 minutes long and held in a room is heated to 105°F. Coincidence?

It’s been 8 days since my modified detox of sorts began and I’ve completed 8 classes, which roughly translates to 12 hours of yoga and 8 sweat drenched tank tops. And much to my stubbornness – I’m feeling pretty good.

Now a bigger question remains, will I be able to stay on this yogi-wagon once returning to work force? Fingers crossed!

Namaste my friends, Namaste…..

So you've reunited with Bikram, eh? Reminds me of our Hot Yoga days in Beantown! Gosh, that was a stinky studio. I've been gung-ho yoga myself lately trying to get in wedding shape, although I've abandoned the sweaty variety. Have fun - maybe we can catch a class together when I'm in NYC this summer.
